New Orleans Tricentennial Celebration: 300 Years in the Making

2018 marked the 300th anniversary of the city of New Orleans. Unfortunately, the official celebrations failed to include events that represent the black, African, Haitian, and Creole, narratives that are an integral part of the city's history. In order to extend the tricentennial events to tell a larger story, the New Orleans Arts and Culture Coalition was born. The coalition consists of members of prominent New Orleans based black organizations, including Amistad, the country's largest black archive, located at Tulane University.
The coalition reached out to me to create a small branding package for the series of events and exhibitions that includes a door sign for the opening exhibition, a poster that includes a map of all of the events, social media materials, and a rack card. Together we developed an aesthetic that represents French New Orleans heritage as well as its African and Caribbean roots.
The photos included are of the opening exhibition held at the Williams Research Center, and arm of the Historic New Orleans Collection, in New Orleans, June 2018.
